    Alabama State W-2 E-file Help

    Employers and filing agents who have issued 25 or more Alabama W-2s (and/or 1099s with Alabama income tax withheld) must electronically file this information through the Department's Website.

    Expected Outcome

    You will be able to file your W-2s electronically with the Alabama Department of Revenue by the due date of the last day of January.


    You should have an active Enhanced Payroll Subscription.


    To submit your state W-2 forms electronically:

    Print form A-3, Annual Reconciliation of Alabama Income Tax Withheld from QuickBooks.

    Create the W-2 file that you will upload in step 4.

    Access the state website.

    The sign on ID and Access Code issued by the Department is required to file electronically and is located on the State of Alabama Employer's Return of Income Tax Withheld coupons. Contact the Alabama Department of Revenue at 334.242.1300 if you need assistance obtaining this information.

    Upload the W-2 information.
