Learn about Payroll Updates
What is a Payroll Update?
QuickBooks Payroll provides payroll updates to QuickBooks Payroll subscribers. These provide updates to tax tables and payroll tax forms.
The bulk of payroll updates go out at the end of the year, since this is when federal and state governments usually update their tax rates. However, QuickBooks Payroll issues payroll updates throughout the year, because every year, some states make changes to their tax tables and tax forms* in the middle of the year.
*State payroll tax forms are available as part of the QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll service.
Which Payroll Update Do I Have?
Go to Payroll News to find out the number of the latest payroll update.
In QuickBooks, from the Employees menu, choose Get Payroll Updates, then Update. In the Get Payroll Updates window, check the number next to the words "You are using tax table version". If this matches the number of the latest payroll update, you are up-to-date.
How do I get Payroll Updates?
If you subscribe to QuickBooks Payroll, you download your updates over the Internet. The easiest way to do this is to set up Automatic Updates, so that QuickBooks downloads payroll updates automatically, as soon as they are available.
Subscribers to the Disk Delivery service of QuickBooks Payroll also receive payroll updates on CD via the mail, though they always have the option of receiving their updates via download, which is faster.
