Overview
The Comptroller of Maryland, Revenue Administration Division announced that the Maryland withholding tables will not change for wages paid on or after January 1, 2009. However, the county tax rate for Prince George will be changing to the 3.2% tables beginning January 1, 2009. The 2009 Percentage Method Tables can be found on the Agency?s website. As noted on the website, click on the jurisdiction where the employee lives to find the proper withholding calculation.

Since the Maryland County rates are entered manually in QuickBooks, QuickBooks Payroll provides a list of all the Maryland Counties and its associated rates in the County % Rate Explain link in Payroll Setup on the Enter state tax information slide.
The County % Rate Explain link will be updated in an upcoming Payroll Update release to reflect Prince George?s new county tax rate of 3.2%.
When should I change the County tax rate for Prince George to 3.2% in QuickBooks?
You should change the County tax rate in QuickBooks on or after January 1, 2009.
Note: If you are creating paychecks in December 2008 for paychecks dated on or after January 1, 2009, you should change the County tax rate prior to creating your paychecks.
What steps do I need to take next?
Once you are ready to change your County tax rate for Prince George to 3.2% for 2009, take the following steps:
- From the Employees menu, select Employee Center. Double click on an employee who is subject to Prince George County Tax.
- In the Change tabs drop down selection, select Payroll and Compensation Info.
- Then click on the Taxes tab.
- Then click on the State tab.
- Enter the 2009 Prince George County Tax Rate of 3.2% in the County % Rate box.
- Click OK twice.
- Be sure to change the county tax rate for all employees who are subject to the Prince George County Tax Rate.
