Enter and Edit Service Key
To start using your Intuit QuickBooks Payroll service, you must enter your Payroll Service Key. Entering your service key activates your payroll service, enables you to download the latest tax information, and allows you to start paying your employees with Intuit QuickBooks Payroll.
If you have a disk delivery version of Intuit QuickBooks Payroll, you will also need to enter your payroll disk delivery key.
Checklist before entering the service key:
- Your EIN (Employer Identification Number) must be entered into your company information.
- You must be logged into QuickBooks as the administrator and in single-user mode.

Verify if you are on the latest release of the QuickBooks program.

To enter or edit your payroll service and disk delivery keys:
- For Pro and Premier: From the top menu bar select Employees, choose My Payroll Service and then select Manage Service Key (or press CTRL+K on the keyboard).
- For Simple Start 2008 and above: In the New Activation homepage, click Pay Employees then click Enter Service Key. (For editing existing service key From the Payroll Center click My Payroll Service and then Manage Service Key.)
- In the Service Keys window:
- click Add for new service keys
- click Edit if you would like to edit your current service key
- Enter your new or edit your existing payroll service key in the Service Key field and then click Next and Finish. This will prompt QuickBooks to download your payroll service and latest Tax Table.
