How to get the information to fill out IRS Form 8846 FICA Tip Credit
Certain food and beverage establishments use Form 8846 to claim a credit for social security and Medicare taxes paid or incurred by the employer on certain employees' tips. The credit is part of the general business credit.
QuickBooks has an 8846 worksheet in the Summarize Payroll Data in Excel report to help you fill out the form if you are eligible for the credit.
You will have the information needed to complete IRS Form 8846 FICA Tip Credit.
Your are using a currently supported version of QuickBooks and have a version of Microsoft Excel that is compatible with this version of QuickBooks.
In QuickBooks, create the Summarized Payroll Data in Excel report.
- QuickBooks Pro and Premier: on the top menu bar, click on Reports, click Employees & Payroll, and click Summarize Payroll Data in Excel.
If necessary, follow the prompts to enable macros in Excel. When macros are enabled, the QuickBooks Payroll Reports Workbook window opens.
In the QuickBooks Payroll Reports Workbook window, select the date range.
Under Optional Reports verify the 8846 Worksheet is selected.
Click the Get QuickBooks Data button.
In Excel, select the 8846 tab.
Use the information on this tab to complete the IRS Form 8846 and file according to the IRS instructions.
