Move a QuickBooks company file
Overview
To move a company file to another computer temporarily so someone else can work on it, you create a portable company file, and then save the portable company file to a CD or attach it to an e-mail. To move a company file permanently to another computer, you back up the file and then restore it on the new computer.

You need to move your company file to another computer.

Your file will be moved.
Details
To move a company file temporarily:
- Create a portable company file to be saved to a CD or USB flash drive.
- For instructions, see Use a portable company file to e-mail or move a company file.
- You can also get instructions from QuickBooks Help. On the Index tab, enter portable company files, and then select Use a portable company file to e-mail or move a company file.
To move a company file permanently:
Create a backup of the file.

- You can also get instructions from QuickBooks Help. On the Index tab, enter backups, select manual, and then select Back up manually to a CD.
Restore the backup on the new computer.
