Configure McAfee Personal Firewall Plus for QuickBooks updates
Overview
McAfee(R) Personal Firewall Plus must be configured to allow QuickBooks program and payroll updates. Internet security and personal firewall application settings can affect how QuickBooks accesses payroll, online business services, merchant account services, and program updates.< br/>
- qbw32.exe (default location is C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year])
- qbupdate.exe (default location is C:\Program Files\Common Files\ Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate)
Assumptions
You have an active QuickBooks payroll subscription and use McAfee(R) Personal Firewall.
Expected Outcome
Your McAfee(R) Personal Firewall will be configured to allow QuickBooks program and payroll updates.
Details
To configure McAfee Personal Firewall Plus 2007 or later for QuickBooks updates:
Open McAfee Security Center. Click Internet & Network and then click Configure.
Click the Advanced button.
In the left pane, click Program Permissions.
Make sure that qbw32.exe and qbupdate.exe are listed with Full Access permissions. The permissions can be changed in the Action box below the list.
Click OK and close McAfee Security Center.
To configure earlier versions of McAfee Personal Firewall Plus for QuickBooks updates:
Open McAfee Personal Firewall Plus and click Advanced.
In the left pane, select Internet Applications.
Verify that QuickBooks and QBUpdate Module are listed in the Internet Applications list with Allow Full Access permissions.
- Click New Allowed Application.
- Browse to your QuickBooks installation location. (C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks [year] is the default installation location, but your location might differ.)
- Select QBW32 and click Open.
- Click New Allowed Application.
- Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate.
- Select qbupdate and click Open.
- Click OK.
