Repair QuickBooks in Windows 7, Vista, and XP
Assumptions
If you have any 3rd party software (such as Norton or McAfee) installed, the repair may not resolve your issue. In this situation, we recommend a clean uninstall/reinstall of QuickBooks.
Details
Create a backup of your QuickBooks company file.
Close all programs that are currently running, including QuickBooks.
Click the Start button and then Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Select QuickBooks in the list of programs and click Change/Remove.
Click Next and Repair.
And one more time, click on Next and Repair.
Click Finish and restart your computer if prompted.
Lastly, don't forget to download the latest QuickBooks release and get payroll updates.

Under Programs and Features, select Uninstall a program.
Select QuickBooks in the list of programs and click Uninstall/Change.
If prompted, click Continue and Next.
Click Finish and restart your computer if prompted.
Lastly, don't forget to download the latest QuickBooks release and get payroll updates.
During the repair you might be prompted with an error or message such as Files in use.
If you receive this message, follow these steps:
Click Ignore (reboot required), and click OK.
You might have to click Ignore several times. The repair should continue.
If the Ignore button is not available, click Close. After the repair is completed, you must restart the computer.
