Unable to print with an HP DeskJet USB printer
Problem
When printing from QuickBooks with an HP DeskJet USB printer, nothing prints.
Renaming the USB port to a name with more characters than QuickBooks allows or to a naming convention that is not recognized by QuickBooks can cause this problem.
Assumptions
You are using an HP DeskJet USB printer.
Expected Outcome
You will be able to print from QuickBooks.
Details
Until a resolution is available for this issue, do the following:
Rename the HPprinter so that the name contains less than 10 characters.
- Choose Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel.
- Double-click Printers and Faxes.
- Right-click the affected printer and choose Rename.
- Enter a name that is 10 characters, or less (for example, HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a can be renamed to HP OJ)
Download and install the latest printer driver for your HP printer at the Hewlett Packard Support & Drivers web site.
To ensure that the correct ports are renamed to a standard USB port (USB001or USB002), contact Hewlett Packard Technical Support.
If a parallel port is available on the printer, connect the printer to this port with a parallel cable and retry printing.
