Unknown client-specific tax form printing error 214, 539, 202, or 10508
When printing state forms or forms 940, 941, W-2, and W-3, you receive the following error:
- Unknown client-specific tax form printing error: 214, 539, 202, or 10508.
You must have an active QuickBooks payroll subscription to print forms.
To resolve this problem:
Check the following lists (Payroll Item List, Employee Name List, Chart of Accounts, Vendor List - including inactive and active items) for invalid characters (such as #).
If the above step does not resolve the issue, continue below:
Update your program to the most current release. When updating the product release, ensure that all updates are selected on the Options tab.
You can also try to re-download and reset the entire payroll update by pressing the control key and clicking the Update Tab at the same time. This method has been known to work when getting this type of error.
Download the latest tax table.
In QuickBooks, click Employees > Get Payroll Updates.
