    Unknown client-specific tax form printing error 214, 539, 202, or 10508

    Problem

    When printing state forms or forms 940, 941, W-2, and W-3, you receive the following error:

    • Unknown client-specific tax form printing error: 214, 539, 202, or 10508.
    This error typically occurs if the tax table form files are missing or damaged, which can result from an incomplete download or installation of the latest tax table.

    You must have an active QuickBooks payroll subscription to print forms.

    Details

    To resolve this problem:

    Check the following lists (Payroll Item List, Employee Name List, Chart of Accounts, Vendor List - including inactive and active items) for invalid characters (such as #).

    If the above step does not resolve the issue, continue below:

    Update your program to the most current release. When updating the product release, ensure that all updates are selected on the Options tab.

    You can also try to re-download and reset the entire payroll update by pressing the control key and clicking the Update Tab at the same time. This method has been known to work when getting this type of error.

    Download the latest tax table.

    In QuickBooks, click Employees > Get Payroll Updates.

    If you do not have a current subscription to one of the QuickBooks payroll services, you need to subscribe to a QuickBooks payroll service to download the latesttaxtables.Click the Subscribe button (if you do not have a subscription) or the Account Info button (if your subscription has expired) and follow the onscreen instructions. Then you will need to Validate your payroll subscription, and download updated payroll files.
