Troubleshooting QuickBooks update errors

Problem
QuickBooks update errors can be caused by one of the following:
- Internet security or personal firewall application settings
- Multiple instances of QuickBooks for the same version year installed on one computer (for example, QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 7.0 and QuickBooks: Premier Edition 2007)
Assumptions
You are able to connect to the Internet outside of QuickBooks.
Expected Outcome
In QuickBooks, you will be able to connect to the Internet.
Details
If you are receiving a specific error, go to QuickBooks Support and search for the specific error message.
If there is no specific error message, follow these steps.
Below is a list of fixes for this error. You may not need to follow all of them to resolve the issue. We recommend trying to download payroll updates again after every few steps.
Verify and update your Internet connection and QuickBooks settings.
Configure your firewall or other third-party programs to allow both incoming and outgoing Internet access through port 10172.
The files that require Internet access are:
- FileManagement.exe
- QBDBMgrN.exe
- QBGDSPlugin.exe
- QBW32.exe
