Payroll Subscription Expired message appears

Problem

A message that your payroll subscription has expired appears when you attempt to pay employees after upgrading from a previous QuickBooks version.

Assumptions

You must have a current payroll subscription.

Expected Outcome

The error message will disappear.

Details

Your payroll subscription, if valid in the previous QuickBooks version, should still be valid. To resolve this issue:

Be sure you are signed in as the administrator in single-user mode.

Update the QuickBooks product release version.

For more information about updating QuickBooks, see Update QuickBooks release.

On the top menu bar click Employees.

Select My Payroll Service > Manage Service Key.

Be sure your payroll subscription is highlighted and click Edit > Next > Finish.

Once your payroll subscription is validated, close and reopen QuickBooks. You should be able to pay your employees.
