    QuickBooks cannot open a federal or state payroll tax form

    Problem

    When you attempt to open a federal or state payroll tax form, you receive the following error message: QuickBooks is unable to open the file. Please download the update and try again.

    Assumptions

    You have an active Enhanced Payroll subscription.

    Expected Outcome

    You will be able to open the federal or state payroll tax form.

    Details

    To download the update again:

    Reset the QuickBooks program update.

    Download the latest payroll tax table update.

    See KB Download the latest payroll tax table for more information.

    If the error continues, run reboot.bat.
